Nostradamus on War: Biological factors in 21st-22nd century

The Sephirot for this chapter covers the regression of humankind in the epoch where terror from the sky reigns. It is not a single event but a series of events stretching across a full century. Unfortunately for us it is the century where modernity peaks and in the face of adversity reverts to a twisted memory of the past.

Terror on its own is a common experience which survivors usually learn to master because they have a future. In such circumstances past horrors become a fantasy world not representative of anything real for those who are busy making the best of what remains. But in our century terror goes much deeper for it challenges mankind's right to existence on this planet.

Mastering a single event only to be plunged into a new despair is bad enough but repeated many times over the gloom becomes entrenched. It is therefore significant that the verse heading the Sephirot for this chapter is one of the few holding precise dates and in speaking in the way it does of extended terror it heralds there is more to come.

We can have no doubt as to the events to which Nostradamus alludes since it is set out in clear detail in his 1555 preface publication of the first part of his prophecies.

But in order, my son, that I may not wander too deeply for the future capacity of your mind, and also because I find that letters shall undergo such a huge and incomparable loss, I find that so many deluges and such deep floods shall befall the world before the universal conflagration that there shall not be scarcely any land. And this will be for such a long time that except for enographies and topographies all would be lost. Also, both before and after these floods, the rains in many countries shall be so slight, and there will be so much fire and white-hot rock shall fall from the sky, that nothing shall remain that is not consumed. And all this to occur, in a brief period before the final conflagration. Nostradamus' Preface to Cesar PCE8

In an era where populations and cities are destroyed first by great floods then by asteroid strikes and a tilting of the Earth's axis of rotation, the means for supporting life are greatly diminished. The basics such as food and drinkable water are no longer within easy reach and the production of technology goods is almost entirely lost.

For much of what happens mankind is not to blame but then neither are gods or nature blamable. The history of our universe reveals to us that dramatic, explosive change happens regularly and although each event has a degree of predictability there is no guide as to exactly where and exactly when it will happen. The start of our cosmos has those two fundamental imprecisions yet we are here. We exist! There is an instant! We have a place!

Blame requires there to be a genitor making choices about the when, where, who and what for each event that happens in our universe. All history teaches us is that nothing about these events is personal; there is no guide offered, no relief, no punishment nor reward. There is only what is, so there is no benefit gained from humanising nature or gods.

Yet there is a force in nature that breaks that rule. We are part of it since it is the evolution of living things. It has its terrors since it is part of nature but again it cannot carry any blame. It is relentless in its progression to exploit an ever wider range of the universe's potential but in return it imposes mortality on all components in its quest. It is evolution that places mankind in a position to see and know how this universe of ours operates. Unknowing, relentless, continuous, formulaic regurgitations of the resources within naturally defined boundaries is the eternal cauldron . Yet the universe yields, patterns, shapes and actions bound by predictable laws.

We are mortal through no choice of our own; we are subject to the whim of nature but we also benefit from its gifts. Predictability is one such gift we cherish but when the fancy of nature prevails then we know what real terror means.

Evolution unseeing, probing, changing for the better has gifted us and all living things with an instinct for survival. That gift was not generously granted it was given because it is essential for evolution to achieve its crawl into the vast and varying halls and microscopic cells of the universe. Affecting survival in any time of terror are the after effects of violent geophysical events.

This Sephirot is built around indicators of the type outlined above. Sulfurous chemicals, nitrides, toluates and amines are found within the text and anagrams. There are also mentions of lasting legacies from fires in the sky and axis shift tremors impacting oceans, seaports and land zones alike.

Vast changes involving reduced means of survival are not accommodated easily within a well ordered system; it inevitably is brought about by war, natural but horrific ways of dying such as famine and plague and brutalization of those who remain alive. Times of retrogression see government cease, local gangs increase with new bands gathered by common desperation, and solitary outlaws dictate what is allowed, permitted and destroyed.

Clear and rational discussion is not the way that ensures the future; it is rejected along with learning and law. People turn to ancient ways and beliefs in an erroneous hope this will assure they are the ones who will survive. Once again the promise of a Messiah, the wrath of God, a Chosen people are the mantras that draw bands together in the belief that their God, their Messiah and their kind will guarantee they prevail over all others, even those with equally strong faith.

It may seem from this story line that Nostradamus is motivated by visions of future gloom and doom, however I don't think that is the case. His apocalyptic tales follow a script that suits a detached observer of traumatic events that precede his real interest as illustrated by verses in the Sephirot for Cause of Wars.

Through numerous examples it becomes apparent that he foresaw our time as undergoing many great traumas that place all of us on the brink of extinction. Yet he knew that the means of our race's survival was within us and moreover that our kind would survive. But alongside that was the responsibility with which he felt entrusted. This was not an act of faith but of understanding the real way the universe works.

Knowing that in the coming era forward thinking would be put under great threat because of reversion to ancient ideas, he placed his understanding of the skills needed for human survival in his words. He didn't create these skills nor did he think he was essential to the process, rather he knew he wouldn't feel right if he didn't pass on what he knew. The gifts he had inherited would have been devalued if he let the hostility of others stop them from evolving further.

Mankind sits in a privileged position whereby we are the first living creatures on this planet capable of observing, deducing and vocalizing the origin of the universe and the nature of its workings. To get here it has taken billions of years of progressive exploitation of the niches in our universe.

Yet there is a vast greater time remaining in the universe during which evolution will continue its quest. As smart and as gifted as we might think we are it is our descendants who will inevitably be more advanced than we.

It is reasonable to expect that future beings will be the ones that have greater access than us to the underutilized aspects of time. It is also a truth that mankind may not understand that process any more than a dog understands that the image in a photo or on TV screen was produced by man and represents virtual images of the world. So it is our descendants that can assist us through difficult times and they can do so without fear or favour since what we will become is reflected in them.

Turning to ancestors and ancestral gods offers nothing towards advancing our future. It removes vision and the mechanisms needed for survival into the future. And there is no reason that any help should be available from such origins. If Nostradamus' Prophecies carry a warning it is that going back is not the way to go forward.

Unfortunately mankind is not a communal being interested only in the progress of the whole but is comprised of individuals who fear the unrequested gift of their own mortality. Nostradamus could not offer anything to prevent the inevitable impact on individuals, so warnings are not built into his work. They are records from the future and beyond the time of the terrors there lies hope for humankind and all those gifted mortality during that time.

More on this theme will emerge from other parts of Nostradamus' writings but at this point it is enough to observe he did write about these things. A good example of this appears in his 1555 Preface to Cesar [PCE10] where he says:

How then do these ambiguous opinions exceeding all Mahommedan dreams arise by natural reasons, when God the Creator is timeless; it is by the minister of his messengers of fire. The missive is in their burning flame which comes to offer us external reference. Similarly our eyes then become causes of future prediction, signifying future cases that must occur to him that presages.

Because the exterior light which brings the presage infallibly judges its parts, so truly [is it judged] that the parts seem to use the eye for understanding, which is the purpose of this imaginative lesion. The reason for this too obvious, since all is predicted by god's outflow, and it is by means of Angelic spirit that the man prophesying is inspired. This means that the prophecies are illuminated in layers starting with the emotions at the front of his fantasies. By various nocturnal visions it is prophesied and made certain by conjoint astronomical calculations administered in the day. Thereby this a sanctified prediction of the future with no consideration from elsewhere that is based on free will.

It is also able to be seen in this Sephirot since powerful disturbance of mind can be found in the anagrams of the right column in which Nostradamus expects a return to demonology when a long series of terror events prevail. But the anagrams also indicate he sees the fallacy in these regressions.

So in this Sephirot instead of biological discussion or allusion, the text of Nostradamus' verses detail the political and ethical climate of the epoch that most disturbed his mind. The cluster of verses centers on events affecting his homeland in the time when the Pole star is turning, lands are flooded and opportunistic invasions affect the residents of what were his homelands.

Out of these circumstance he sees the degeneration of ethical values. This happens in order to justify the harshness of laws designed to maximize the survival chances of the lineage of the elite. At the same time he is aware that other new developments will emerge from the biological crises moving mankind to further enhanced status in the evolutionary chain.

Alongside the evolutionary changes, funerary practices will alter, new remedies will be pursued and from these other issues will inevitably spin off thereby affecting everyone who remains alive. And all of this can be seen in the text with further details conveyed in the anagrams.
